๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Cash, conversion cycle, Cash holding, Liquidity, Profitability

Abstract:
In todayโ€™s environment, cash conversion cycle is randomly used as a measure of liquidity of the organizations. Cash conversion cycle is considered as the length of time between raw-materials and collection of cash from debtors. It can be used as a benchmarking competitors or comparing companies. Determinants of commercial banksโ€™ performance: Evidence from emerging economies Pages 17-28 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Imran Khan, Muhammad Tahir, Nazish Umer

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2015.11.001

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Emerging economies, Financial crisis, Panel econometrics

Abstract:
This paper examines the determinants of banksโ€™ performance in emerging economies. Sustainable growth of emerging economies depends on the financial performance of their banksโ€™. The determinants of banksโ€™ performance are, therefore, analyzed through panel econometric techniques over the crisis period of 2008-2014 using data of the top 50 banks from the 10 sampled emerging economies. Both banksโ€™ specific and macroeconomic variables are considered in the analysis. Results reveal that macroeconomic variables like GDP and inflation are significant forces behind high Return on Assets (ROA) in emerging economies banksโ€™, however, both negatively influenced the Net Interest Margins (NIM). Among the banksโ€™ specific variables high profitability and NIM are related to high operating costs. This shows that expenses are managed properly in these economies. Further, leverage has a positive impact on both (ROA) and (NIM).While reserve requirement has negatively and significantly influence both profitability and net interest margins, which indicates the prominence of central bankโ€™s monetary policy by considering the importance of liquidity for emerging economies commercial banks in economic recovery phase.

Authors: Tarika Singh, Monika Gupta, Ms. Anju Sharma

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2015.11.003

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Stock market liquidity, Firm performance, Ordinary least square

Abstract:
This paper investigates the relation between stock liquidity and firm performance. Liquidity plays an important role on performance of firms listed in Stock Exchange. When there is a good flow of trading stocks, people could expect more financing through absorbing investors on the market. This study examines the relationship between stock market liquidity and firm performance. The sample of the study was the continuously NSE listed top ten indices over the period 2005-2014. To check the relationship between stock market liquidity and firm performance, the ordinary least sequence and general linear models were applied on Gretl and SPSS, respectively. The results of this study showed positive relationship between independent variables, return and age on dependent variable Tobinโ€™s Q. Further relationship between stock market liquidity and firm performance was also check and it was found that stock market liquidity was correlated with higher firm performance as measured by Tobinโ€™s Q.
